Sanshokudon!  This is a great menu today.  Today’s kenchin soup was good with a very light flavor but it was enjoyable.  I liked the juiciness of the cabbage.  The sanshokudon is great as always and the sweetness and nice sesame flavor on the spinach is excellent.  The chicken and egg mixture is also super good with great flavors.  There isn’t a lot to say from me about this menu other than how much I like it.  Thank you!

Ajifry!  I love the fried fish in school lunch and today we get some nice miso soup and the absolutely delicious konsai salad.  This salad is a creamy crunchfest!  So good and satisfying to eat and the flavors are perfect.  In particular the lotus root and gobo are my favorite.  The gomoku miso soup was also great today as well. I really liked the big slices of tofu which had a nice crust on them.  They were excellent.  Finally, the perfectly fried and crispy ajifry was delicious and also juicy on the inside.  The sauce was nice and my rice disappeared quickly.  Today was a really nice lunch and very satisfying from the beginning to the very end.  Thank you!

Curry and Rice!  A classic menu on a lovely day.  The kaisou salad was nice and had a delicious dressing.  It tasted a little bit like plum and I saw something pinkish red in my salad so I think it was umeboshi.  The pork curry was hot and delicious and had a fair spice level.  It was stewed to perfection and went perfect with rice.  Very enjoyable.  Finally the delicious yogurt was creamy sweet and great.  I love this yogurt so much and it’s a refreshing end to the meal.

Today is a Chinese-style menu with jinjaros and niramanju.  The flavor of the jingaros is out of this world and goes perfectly with rice.  I could eat this forever.  Great texture with juiciness and crunch the whole time.  The ‘pominton’ soup is good and also a new menu item I think.  It is like a mixture of the cloudy soup and a corn soup and a very delicious mix.  I quite like it!  The nira manju was excellent as well with great flavor from the nira which pumped the meaty filling full of flavor.  A really good lunch today with a great variety of strong and delicious flavors.  Can’t beat it!

Hot dogs and chanpon noodles! The hot dogs are tasty and the cabbage is quite nice. I appreciate the delicious and soft buns. The noodles were super good and very filling. I enjoy the thick texture of the noodles and the delicious taste of the broth. I don’t like the squid very much, but overall the dish is very good. A nice lunch!

Ginger pork today!  The ginger pork has great flavor and is filled with delicious vegetables and wonderful textures, not to mention that it goes perfect with rice.  The shrimp ball soup was nice and hot today for me.  The broth had a nice flavor and I could taste a lot of pepper today and it was good.  I love pepper.  The juicy noodles and ultra meaty and yummy shrimp balls make it almost as hearty as today’s main dish.  A delicious lunch!

Popeye sautee and teriyaki chicken with pork and beans too.  A nice menu.  The popeye salad, named after the popular character is loaded with boiled spinach with some bits of corn and meat as well.  It is quite nice and has a lightly smokey flavor.  Maybe it was because the chicken and salad got a little mixed up?  I like to use the bread to make a chicken sandwich and some for my apple jelly so I split it in half.  The teriyaki chicken sandwich was amazing and the flavors on the chicken were very good.  It pairs perfectly with the bread and makes a really nice sandwich.  I also like to use some of my bread to dip into the pork and beans.  The soup was nice as well and had a tomato base.  I like the texture of the beans very much as well.  I used the apple jelly to make a jelly sandwich and it was absolutely delicious and perfect with milk.  The apple flavor is light, but very enjoyable and sweet to conclude the meal.  Thank you!

Today is Fish and Kinpira.  The renkon kinpira was quite good with a sweet flavor and a nice crunch.  The sesame seeds are a nice touch.  I usually move my fish onto my rice and like to mix the miso sauce with my kinpira to give it some extra flavor.  It was nice.  The soup, sawaniwan, was nice and hot.  It has very light flavors compared to the fish and kinpira, but was a nice side dish.  The iwashi was amazing, cooked perfectly, and the miso sauce tasted sweet and savory.  I really love the miso sauce that is added to the fish.  A very yummy lunch today!

Taco rice on this rainy and chilly day.  The taco rice was superb to put it simply.  I mixed all the cabbage and meat sauce and rice in my bowl and enjoyed it like that.  The boiled cabbage still had enough water in it so that it helped to temper the spiciness of the meat sauce and added a crunchy element as well.  This is quite the interesting dish and very good.  Authentic taco flavors!  Completely contrasting that powerful full flavored rice dish is the more gentle tofu and wakame soup.  Since the taco rice has such strong flavors, the more subtle and Japanese flavors of the soup are easier to discern allowing me to taste them clearly.  An interesting pair that works together surprisingly well!  The jelly for dessert was delicious and had a sweetened grapefruit flavor.  It was very enjoyable and strong enough to refresh my pallet despite having enjoyed the heavily yet deliciously flavored taco rice!  Excellent meal today!  I am full!

Yakisoba and anpan!  We rarely if ever see anpan so I am excited to try it.  The daikon and ham salad is a winner everytime and today is no different.  I really think it’s the umami of the ham and sour and salty flavors of the dressing that really make it so delicious.  The yakisoba was delicious and the noodles had a nice soft texture.  Quite good.  There was a little crunchy texture from the carrots and cabbage as well here and there which was nice.  The anpan was excellent!  Good texture and a nice level of sweetness.  Why don’t we have anpan for school lunch more?  ANPAN REVIVAL!

Nikujaga & tofu. The komastsuna salad was delicious. The smoky katsuoboshi really lends a nice flavor to the vegetables. Before I jumped into the nikujaga I prepared and ate my tofu. It was so smooth and creamy and flavorful. It is very high quality tofu which is great. The soy sauce that came with it was very good as well. The nikujaga was perfect. Seriously kyushoku nikujaga is so filled with delicious umami and sweet flavors and has so many noodles and vegetables it is phenomenal. So hot and filling, it is perfect for the cold and rainy weather today. Lovely lunch!

MARSHALL BEANS!  Excellent lunch day today of course.  The beans salad is amazing and is a crunchy hearty start to my meal.  The broccoli makes sure there is plenty of dressing since it doesn’t stick to the beans very well.  The spanish omelette, which I will call a quiche, was great.  I like the potatoes adding a bit of different texture from the eggs.  The onion soup is amazing as well.  There are so many onions finely sliced into this soup and their sweetness really gives a nice flavor with the bits of meat in it.  The cabbage acts as a nice base and makes for a hearty and crunchy bite along with the yummy soup.  I use some of my bread roll to clean the salad dressing and some to soak up some soup so I can get a nice ratio for my chocobread.  The ratio of marshall beans to bread must be good or else it’s too dry.  Lastly, the pear jelly was quite nice and a good refreshing end to the meal.  Such a great meal today!

Last lunch of the Month! Kakiagedon and ‘vegetable day’. Kakiage is my absolute favorite so hopefully school lunch kakiage is good! The Salty Cabbage salad was excellent and the sesame oil really took it to the next level adding such flavor and umami to the natural sweetness of the cabbage. Also I don’t think I have seen this salad in school lunch before/recently so it is a super great addition to the line up. The Sawaniwan soup is an old favorite as I love the rooty earthy flavors and the salty soup. The kakiage was good! Crunchy, some good friend flavors, and a nice texture from the vegetables inside as well. The sauce on top is wonderful of course, but I think I used too much sauce and it overpowered the natural flavors of the kakiage. Such a great menu today and it’s only Tuesday! All this week is great delicious meals for lunch so I am excited. Thank you!

Goya Champloo today.  Always an interesting item.  We got shumai today as well and the first thing I do is put them in my soup to warm them up.  Classic technique!  The goya was good and any bitterness is paired well with the meat and eggs which were flavored to match it perfectly. The harusama soup has a very gentle flavor compared to the powerful goya champloo and it’s a nice little break from all that strong flavor.  After a couple minutes in my soup, my shumai have warmed up a little bit and they are delicious.  Juicy and flavorful.  The onions and pork are a great pair and make for a nice meaty satisfying bite.  Great meal today!

Meatballs, bread, and kitsune udon!  An interesting combination and a delicious one!  Ah, the ham and daikon salad is so delicious.  Seriously such a perfect match of textures, flavors, and so simple too.  The kitsune udon as well was very good.  I think the soup broth has a lot of flavor in it as well which is great.  The kitsune tofu was good, but I like it a little sweeter.  Maybe it is because I like the cup noodle kitsune so much?  It was still very juicy and delicious.  Looking at today’s menu, it would look like the udon is the main dish, but to me, it is the meatballs and bread.  Another ‘ura-menu’ technique I love is making a simple little meatball sandwich.  The meatballs were sweet and tasty and went perfect with the slice of bread as well.  It was a sweeter meatball sandwich but super good and satisfying for me.  Wonderful lunch to finish the first week of school back from break.

Curry rice and Seaweed salad!  A school lunch classic for our second school lunch after the break.  Today’s dressing tasted like it had a little bit more punch than usual which was nice and the corn is great as always balancing out the flavors and textures with some sweetness and a crunchy bite.  The curry today was truly amazing.  The summer vegetables really take it to a new place flavor and texture wise with pumpkins adding sweetness and a creamy texture and eggplants with a juicy bite too.  I was super satisfied and happy to get this meal today. Thank you!

Wow!  School lunch!  It has been over a month!  And today’s school lunch is a great one. Yummy broccoli and cucumber salad with corn is so refreshing and tasty.  I like to use some of my rice bread to clean up the dressing on the plate.  It was very well baked and has a great chewy texture with a nice outer crust.  The tomato soup was simple and nice with some onions, egg, and a little meat as well making it more robust.  Delicious, and of course I clean the bowl with a piece of the yummy rice bread.  Finally, I save a big hunk of the bread to make into a bun for my baked chicken and cheese.  This little sandwich is seriously one of my favorite ‘ura-menu’ items.  Please try it!

Last kyushoku of the semester.  Hot dog and ramen with a nice treat in the form of a garigarikun ice cup.  The hot dog was great and I think it is fun to prepare it and make it the way I like it.  The flavor of the sausage on the dog is great.  Today’s miso ramen was wonderful as well. The texture of the noodle was great and flavor of the broth very satisfying and hearty.  I liked the bits of corn in it as well which gave a little sweetness and crunch too.  The garigarikun ice was just like the real thing!  Soda flavored and super sweet and nice.  So nice on a hot day like today.  A wonderful conclusion to school lunch on this final day of school for the students.

Second to last school lunch of the first semester.  Saba in miso sauce and kimchi tonjiru.  The gobo salad was great and tasted wonderful.  A nice sweetness and some savory goodness from the meat bits as well.  The kimchi tonjiru was tasty and had a nice spice level to it giving the tonjiru a little bit of excitement. It was nice to go back and forth between the soup and the fish.  The Saba was great today as always with a nice sweetness from the Miso sauce and hearty with a great texture as well.  A very nice lunch today.

Hayashi Rice!  A wonderful day and I am very hungry!  The salad was nice and had nice almost crunchy abura age which were like croutons.  The hayashi rice was quite good and nice and beefy with great flavors from the mushrooms as well.  Delicious!

NIKU JAGA!  Today’s spinach and sprout salad was pretty good and had a kind of unique taste that I can’t really describe.  There was sesame, but also something else.  The salad is called ‘Isokaori ae’ so whatever iso is, is probably it! Good stuff.  The tofu was super good.  So soft and creamy that I could barely pick it up with my chopsticks and pretty much just drank it after a while.  The soy sauce was a nice pairing of course and the tofu itself was very high quality I think.  The nikujaga today was excellent and delicious as always.  Today’s was advertised as being slightly spicy, but my old tongue couldn’t tell.  It was very delicious and had a lot of flavor, but as far as spice was concerned it was very gentle.  The gobo in particular was very interesting and added a kind of new element to the dish, while the potatoes and noodles were such a perfect pair soaking up that yummy juice making for a hearty and pleasant main dish.  I love nikujaga.

Today is a Japanese lunch menu with sanma, hijiki, and soup.  The hijiki was great.  It was packed with lots of protein from the meat and beans too.  Today’s soup, the Inamuducchi was interesting.  It reminded me a little bit of the Dosanko soup and although it looks like a miso soup, I think the base is different.  Maybe it is from the amount of satsumaage in it giving the soup a more complex flavor.  It was good.  The sanma today was excellent and a great dish with the rice.  The sweet and savory daikon oroshi sauce was delicious and gave the sanma a more interesting flavor and matched it with rice even more perfectly.  A great menu today!

Today is the delicious sanshokudon with soup.  The juicy sesame greens and the yummy egg and chicken mix are a perfect match and go very well with the rice of course.  The miso soup was excellent today and the onions and potatoes were particularly delicious adding great flavor as well as hearty and enjoyable texture.  One of my favorite lunches so there isn’t much to say!

I missed lunch on Friday sadly!  I wanted to try the jam!  Today is mabodofu, a classic kyuushoku menu. The salad was quite refreshing and good with yummy sesame flavors.  Undoubtedly todays VIP are the spring rolls.  They are so crunchy and good.  The flavors are like a yummy savory Chinese soup.  The mabo today was quite nice.  It had a bit more punch than last time so it was more enjoyable to eat.  A nice lunch today!

Ikatendon!  Today is a mysterious menu to me because when I look at it I don’t think that I will like it, but everytime it is super delicious and enjoyable.  Very strange.  The momizuke is so simple, but the flavors are there and its enjoyable to eat. The ‘raincloud’ soup is another excellent side dish and perfect for today’s (This week’s) weather.  The egg and onion flavor have been boiled really nicely giving the whole soup a nice base and the chicken adding a lot of great umami.  The squid tempura is fine on its own but with the sauce and rice is perfect.  I love kyushoku ikatendon very much.  A nice lunch and quite filling.  If only it could make the rain go away!

Today is a special menu for Tanabata, the Stars Festival.  Everything is star shaped in the menu today!  Well not everything, but almost everything.  The salad was bright and delicious with a nice crunch and sweet sour dressing. The ‘heaven’ soup has nice delicious noodles and a great simple salty flavor and the Naruto slices have little stars in them too.  The hamburg which was also shaped like a star was nice too.  Meaty and good with ketchup as well as a good pair with the bread.  The rice bread is one of my favorites.  I love and soft and stretch texture as well as the nice crust on the outside too.  Last was the special dessert.  I love this dessert, it has so many flavors like lemon and grape and the best part is the little orange star on top.  I save it for last every time!  A truly wonderful meal across the board!  Thank you!

Pork Curry and Rice today baby! Oh yeah!  The seaweed and cucumber salad was slippery and crunchy at the same time.  The flavors of the dressing and freshness of the vegetables was great.  The curry was excellent and had a great spice level.  The potatoes and onions in particular really hit the mark today.  A classic lunch menu but a great one!

The komatsuna salad was sweet and soft with a squishy crunch.  I like the sesame flavor.  The tonjiru was warm and hearty and I got a lot of potatoes which were soft and delicious.  Today’s fish is not my favorite and I tried to eat it quickly.  Today is a classic Japanese menu, but this fish is slowly becoming one of my kyuushoku villains alongside of natto after I got a big bone in my fish.  Still, I am very thankful for the delicious meal!

Another rainy day today, but we have warm and spicy indoni to enjoy for lunch.  The cabbage salad was great.  The nice and tangy dressing with the umami from the ham and nice crunch from the cabbage makes it a yummy one.  The indoni was excellent.  It isn’t quite the same flavor as curry and the eggs in it give it a nice and unique flavor and texture as well which is a welcome change and a delicious one too.  Indoni is always interesting.  I feel like it has a curry and tomato base and they add extra liquid to make it more like a soup than a rue.  One of the kyushoku mysteries that I just enjoy eating.  It goes quite well with the butter roll as well.  As always the tochiotome jam and butter roll are a delicious final snack to enjoy with my milk.

First day of July.  Bibinba!  The namul salad mix is quite nice and has a subtle sesame flavor and a nice juicy bite.  The meat is delicious and very flavorful and the vegetable/root that is served with it has a kind of hard texture, but is also very good.  The harusame soup is hot and delicious with a light salty flavor.  It is also packed with vegetables and yummy noodles as well.  The clear noodles are my favorite.  And the acerora jelly was a nice sweet finish to the meal as well.  A delicious to July!

MARSHALL BEANS!  Today’s lunch is an all star menu in my book.  The broccoli salad is crunchy and juicy and the dressing with it is creamy and sweet.  The tomato omelet is fluffy and nice with a nice and savory tomato sauce inside of it.  I like to use some of my bread to make a little egg sandwich with it, but of course I save most of it for the Marshall Beans.  Today’s curry udon was amazing.  The spices were nice and it had a bit of kick to it which is great.  Wonderful lunch!

Unfortunately yesterday I couldn’t enjoy the spicy taco rice which breaks my heart.  Today is karaage, though and I am sure it will be great!  The salad was simple and good and the sesame seeds gave the salad a nice little smokey flavor along with the slightly bitter and sour flavor of the dressing.  Today’s soup, sawaniwan, is delicious.  It is a more rare soup to get with lunch and tastes great.  It gets a lot of flavor from the green onions, mushrooms, and meat.  The karaage was amazing.  Crunchy and salty and just oily enough, while the inside was juicy and flavorful bursting with umami.  Usually the karaage has a special flavor which is always enjoyable, but sometimes the classic and simple flavors are the best!  A delicious lunch on this grey and dreary overcast day.

What a menu today.  Fried fish burger and the tremendously good macaroni cream stew.  The first thing I do on ‘burger’ days like this is to make my sandwich.  The bread and fish are not really compatible size-wise so I find the best technique is to cut the fish with my spoon diagonally and then you can spread it nicely along the bun.  After covering it with sauce I am ready.  The sandwich is delicious and although it is a little too much bread for the amount of fish, it is delicious.  The fish’s crust is crunchy and the inside is juicy with a light flavor.  The macaroni cream stew is amazing.  Today the flavor was quite nice and the bits of meat in it were delicious as well.

Today is hayashi rice!  The seaweed salad was ok today.  Mostly slimy and slippery, but the corn and cucumber make it more appealing to me.  Today’s dressing had a very light flavor.  The hayashi rice on the other hand had a lot of great flavor and delicious ingredients that make it a very hearty and enjoyable.  The onions were sweet and delicious and the little pops from the green peas add a nice surprise contrasting the sauce.  The nice citrusy orange slice at the end work great to clean my mouth up and refresh me for the rest of the afternoon.  Quite a nice lunch today.

Chicken Cheese Sandwiches and Minestrone soup!  The Daikon, cucumber, and ham salad is wonderfully balanced with great flavors and textures.  It is creamy and crunchy with a nice sweet vinegarette that is perfect with the hams flavor.  The minestrone today was actually very flavorful.  Sometimes it can be watery, but today it was delicious and the beans and shells in particular were my favorite.  Today’s main event however is the chicken and cheese sandwich on the kokutopan.  It was stupendous.  The sweetness of the bread and the savory flavor of the cheesy chicken make an interesting combo and it is very easy to eat and super yummy.  The chicken was good and fairly juicy too.  One of the best lunches of all time.

Today’s menu is kind of Chinese style.  The salad was very crunchy and had a nice sour dressing which was unique and enjoyable.  There was sesame and a little bit of sweetness too.  The happosai is such an interesting dish with so many varied ingredients.  I often find that the squid or shrimp or some other seafood overpowers the other flavors though.  I do love the quail eggs though and it is a very good soup.  Today’s secret VIP in my heart, though, is the niramanju.  So flavorful and tasty, the manju is very satisfying and delicious.  I like to bury it inside my happosai to warm it up and thanks to the wrapper it still retains its strong flavor without mixing with the soup.  A nice lunch today!

Today is a Japanese style menu with some fish, dosanko soup, and hijiki.  Today’s hijiki was juicy and warm and quite good.  I liked the little meaty bits and the noodles in it as well.  It has a nice sweet and earthy flavor.  I always move my fish on to my rice and there is usually sauce left behind.  I ate the remaining hijiki juice and miso sauce with some rice before enjoying my soup.  The miso sauce is sweet and delicious. The dosanko soup is phenomenal and the flavors are always great.  It is a buttery and savory soup with all the good vegetables that I love.  Hokkaido knows what they are doing!  Today’s fish, iwashi, is a little bitter but the miso and sesame sauce is perfect and pairs with it making the bitter taste less intense.  I love the miso sauce and today’s fish is soft and well cooked too.  Great meal today!  Love that dosanko so much!

Today is yaki soba and salad day with bread and jam.  The salad was delicious and bright and had great flavors.  Today it tasted like there was a special ingredient like ginger or something in it.  Today’s yaki soba felt extra juicy and there was a lot of yummy sauce.  I like to use some of the crust from the bread to soak up the salad dressing and yaki soba sauce on the plate.  The bread and jam was great to finish the meal with the yogurt as well.  A nice classic school lunch today!  Thank you!

Dreaded Natto day.  I quickly dispatched it and followed it up with plenty of rice and some jako salad.  The Jako salad is quite unique and delicious.  Its dressing is very acidic and its strong flavor is refreshing and cuts through the sticky and slimy natto coating in my mouth which rice cannot wash away.  But then finally the nikujaga.  Today’s nikujaga is labeled as ‘pirikara’ meaning it is slightly spicy.  I am thankful for the sweetness and delicious flavors which boiled into the meat and potatoes and noodles.  The sweet and juicy onions and soft carrots are a dream to enjoy all filled with flavor.  And all the while time to time I get a nice little crunchy surprise from the gobo chunks and beans.  A true thrill for my mouth and really the saving grace of today’s menu.  Thank you nikujaga.

Today is korokke!  The kanpyo salad is delicious and the flavor of the ham and the creamy dressing is quite nice.  The corn especially goes well with the dressing.  The spring noodle soup is amazing and tastes very nice.  The flavor is fairly well developed and has some nice umami to it.  Today’s korokke is quite crunchy and warm.  I found the flavor quite light and it was fried very nicely.  The rice bread is delicious and the texture fantastic.  Komekopan is so unique and delicious.  There is no denying how delicious and tasty the jam is and with the rice bread it is only better. It honestly feels like kenmin day part two because of the tochiotome jam and locally sourced pork korokke as well.  Quite a delicious meal today.

Today is Tochigi Citizens day.  The kinpira made from ingredients from Tochigi was delicious and sweet.  I love the gobo.  The fish today is Ayukonroni.  It was very sweet and delicious and quite good!  It even still had its head and face intact which I am learning to enjoy more and more.  I like the crunchy goodness even though it is a bit bitter.  The miso soup was as good as always.  The citizens day dessert was amazing.  Delicious strawberries and fresh sweet whipped cream.  Super duper delicious and I would eat like 5 of these if I had the chance!  Fantastic lunch today!

Sanshokudon!  Love this!  The chicken and egg has delicious ginger flavor and is very delicious.  The sesame spinach is also very flavorful and a little sweet too!  Such a great sanshokudon!  The kenchin soup was pretty good and had an earthy flavor.  The satoimo has a unique texture.  Short review today, but a very nice lunch!  Thank you!

Today is chanponmen and a hot dog.  The chanponmen is absolutely delicious and the thick noodles have a great juicy texture as well.  The meats, squid, and shrimp in it are also very enjoyable.  Kyushoku chanponmen is a real treat, but I don’t like the sound it makes when people eat it at all.  The hot dog was also pretty good today!  I always find the pair of a bowl of noodles and a hot dog to be an interesting one, but it is yummy so I don’t ask questions haha.  Thanks as always for a nice lunch!

Sukiyaki!  Today’s salad was daikonzuke and it was a very simple salad.  It tasted a little bitter to me today, but was ok.  Contrasting that, today’s tamagoyaki was extra thick and filled with flavor and lots of sneaky little ingredients as well.  At a glance I think I can see carrots, onions, and maybe even mushrooms as well.  It was super delicious.  Also I used some of the nori to wrap the rice and it was quite good.  Today’s nori was flavored and a nice little addition to the meal and especially yummy with the tamagoyaki.  The sukiyaki today was hearty and delicious and had a little touch of sweetness as well.  I enjoyed it very much!

Chicken curry and crunchy cube salad!  The salad is amazing and has a wonderful dressing and the cube shaped veggies and meats and cheese are fun to eat.  Great crunch and the cheese cubes are so good in the salad too.  Today’s curry is quite good with a nice spice level and the chunks of chicken are nice!  Can’t beat a good curry and today is one of those days.  Lastly, the zenobi jelly.  It was sweet and pretty good.  It tasted like sports drink or Calpis water.  Classic and delicious lunch today.

Mabo day.  I started off with the cucumber and squid salad and it was pretty good!  Nice and crunchy and the dressing goes well balancing out with the squid flavor.  Today’s mabo is delicious.  Super hot and a nice light flavor that I think all the students in the school can enjoy.  Today’s gyoza were also nice and delicious with a little bit of char and some some Chinese flavors including garlic I think!  Super nice. A good lunch today.

Today is a Japanese menu with sanma, miso soup, and dried daikon salad.  I don’t know how I really feel about the dried daikon.  It is sweet and pretty good, but the texture I think is too much for me sometimes.  It is tough to describe since it is a little bit crunchy but also soft and juicy at the same time.  It is a unique dish.  Today’s miso soup was good as always and I enjoyed the potatoes and onions in particular today.  Today’s main dish is the real superstar of the menu with sanma in plum sauce.  The plum sauce is tart and a little sweet and really makes the fish taste completely new and fresh.  It is great.  I was expecting the regular miso sauce that usually comes with it, but was pleasantly surprised at the sour and sweet flavor of the plums mixing so well with the fish.  The meat itself was cooked perfectly and the perfect texture between being soft and meaty.  What a treat hidden in plain sight.  The final treat in today’s lunch is the sweet little fruit gummies that we got as well.  Three little grape dots which were tougher than normal gummies but had a nice grape flavor.  A little sweet treat at the end of a nice meal.
