A new month and a classic school lunch. Today is Yakisoba. The gobo salad was sweet and delicious and I love the flavor and crunch of the gobo. It is wonderful and I like to use some of the sweet bread to clean the bowl of the dressing. The dressing and the sweet bread actually go together quite well. The yakisoba was good today as well. It is filling and had a light flavor today. Thankful as always for the delicious meal!

Excellent korean-style flavors in today’s lunch. The namul was pretty good, a simple spinach salad with come carrots and bean sprouts with sesame seeds. A nice and easy start. The harusame soup was also quite good. I liked it mostly for its hotness and the yummy noodles, since the flavor was quite light today, but I could taste white pepper which was nice. Today’s main event of course is the Korean-style karaage. It was fried perfectly and still crispy despite being cooled down which was amazing. It actually had a little bit of spice and some nice savory sweet flavors as well. The sauce was amazing. A wonderful meal today that filled me up and made me happy to enjoy. Thank you!

Back at it again and the first lunch of the week is fish, salad, and soup. The salad is spinach-based with some other veggies tossed in and flavored mostly with delicious smokey bonito. It’s a kyushoku classic and a nice start to the meal. Today’s fish, hokke, is not my favorite. It has a kind of creamy oily texture and the flavor is slightly bitter to me although the nutritionist often tells me that students think it tastes sweet. I ate it quickly with my rice and moved on to the soup which is today’s MVP. It was buttery and filled with delicious vegetables and meat as well. It was flavored quite well and was very enjoyable. Today’s apple jelly was amazing and filled with apple chunks. It had more of a natural texture than jelly making it similar to apple sauce which I love. A fine meal today. Thank you!

Wonderful pasta today. I have smelled the cooking onions all morning leading up to lunchtime while walking in the halls between classes and it was great. The daikon, ham, and cucumber salad was excellent. Great dressing and perfect balance of ingredients as well. The pasta was not a let down at all and tasted wonderful. The sauce had a light sweetness, but was still salty and savory enough for me. The little hot dogs were lovely as always. I use some of the bread for the pasta sauce, but like to save most of it to enjoy with the yogurt and the milk. As a nice little final dessert.

Chinese menu today with happosai, spring noodle salad, and manju. The spring noodle salad is quite delicious and tangy with sesame seeds as well. Strips of ham give some nice flavor as well as the cucumbers, cabbage, and carrots which offer a nice crunch. Today’s main dish is the happosai, or 8 Treasures Vegetables. It’s a very interesting naming for a dish, but it has a ton of interesting ingredients which I think are the treasures. Today’s was tasty and a treasure to enjoy for sure. Today’s super treasure was the nira manju though. The strong flavor from the nira and the meat inside the dumpling make for a very delicious treat that was enjoyable.

A wonderful day for school lunch again. Creamy macaroni stew and fried fish sandwiches. Perhaps another reward for the teachers participating in today’s observation lesson? The fried fish was delicious, crunchy, and had a nice flavor. The sauce added some tangy flavors to the fishy and meaty goodness. With the moisture from the boiled cabbage, it’s a nice collection of textures that makes for a yummy dish. The cream stew was delicious as always. So hearty and the pasta is quite yummy filled with sauce. In particular the mushrooms were a nice addition to this adding an interesting texture that was enjoyable. I feel like the flavor of the cabbage kind of won out over the others and I was hoping for a stronger onion flavor. It was still an absolute delight and I am very thankful for such a powerful meal before an important lesson this afternoon! Thank you!

Today the parents came to watch lessons! With many many people, we also have a meal with many many ingredients. Sanshokudon! The kenchin soup was quite good. I liked how hot and hearty it was, filled with lots of veggies and tofu. The sanshokudon proper was delicious as always. The savory egg and chicken with the tasty sweet and sesame spinach as well is a delicious meal great with rice. Thank you!

What a bounty on display today! Hamburg steaks, delicious onion soup, kanpyou salad, and jam with bread. The salad was excellent and had a wonderful and delicious creamy sesame dressing. The onion soup was packed with flavor and had a great texture from the cabbage and the sliced onions. I use some of the bread as buns for the hamburg and enjoy it like a little sandwich. Its super good and the oroshi sauce is prefect with the bread. Such a tasty meal and super filling. Last the tochiotome jam is sweet and enjoying it on the bread with my milk makes for a nice little dessert to end the meal. What a wealth of delicious foods today and almost all of them using ingredients from Tochigi!

Today’s menu theme is local daikon radish which is featured in the curry. I started with the tune and spinach salad which was pretty good! The tuna was good and the crunch from the corn and cucumber were a nice additional texture. The curry today was very good as well! The daikon is a pretty good match and its juiciness allowed me to appreciate the spiciness of the curry a bit more I think. A lovely meal today. Thank you.

Today is a super excellent menu. The seaweed salad was alright. A little slippery for my liking, but it tasted quite nice and the corn gave it some texture. The pork croquette very delicious and perfectly fried. It had a nice balance of meat to potato in the filling as well which was very enjoyable. The stew today is a winter vegetable cream stew and it was pretty good. It was creamy and hot and had a light flavor, with broccoli having the most prominent flavor among the rest of the vegetables. Great lunch today. Bring on more stew!

Japanese style food has been popping up a lot recently! Today is fish in bonito sauce and kinpira with sweet potato soup as well. Quite the meal today. The kinpira is sweet and earthy with good flavors from the sauce as well as the gobo. It also has a nice sweetness which is enjoyable. Kinpira is really good in school lunch. The sweet potato soup was similar to the miso soup or tonjiru we get often, but has sweet potatoes in it. The sweetness and bright color of the satsumaimo give it a nice extra layer of flavor and color. Today’s fish is pretty good and the sauce is really nice. I love bonito and the smoky goodness of the sauce adds a lot to the fish. Delicious meal today!

Back from the weekend and its Nikujaga and Natto! I vanquished my natto quickly, but I think today’s mustard or soy sauce or both was a little different. It was a slightly different color after mixing it up. Then I jumped into the salad to cleanse my chopsticks and mouth. The jako salad is alright with a slightly fishy taste in addition to the dressing. The nikujaga is the main event today for sure though. I adore that great taste and super hearty vegetable content. The little pops from the ginger which was added in was a nice change of pace as well. Happy for the full meal and absolutely adore the nikujaga! Thank you!

Today there are a few new menu items which is nice! We have a new interesting asparagus sautee as well as a spinach gratin. Also pork and beans soup with bread and a new style of chocolate pate/cream as well instead of marshall beans. The sautee is quite delicious and the asparagus and corn are a nice juicy and crunchy pair with nice flavor. The meat is a nice touch as well. The gratin is an interesting little dish. It looks like a patty, but it was baked into an oval, but is still quite soft on the inside. The creamy spinach has some cheese as well and it is very good. It has a ton of great flavor and is very satisfying. This is something I would expect to see at a bakery or a café. The pork and beans was wonderful and super hot. It was hearty and delicious and perfect with the bread as well. The new chocolate sauce was pretty much straight up chocolate sauce with 1.5mg of iron in it. It was super sweet and great on the bread and with milk as well. Quite a change from marshall beans and reminds me that marshall beans isn’t actually chocolate haha. Super nice treat. A really interesting and delicious menu today!

Ginger Stirfry and shrimp ball soup. The stirfry tastes great and has a nice ginger flavor. The meat and onions in particular were cooked really well and go great together. The shrimp ball soup was excellent as well and super hot too. I love the juicy shrimp balls which give it a really big burst of flavor. Simple lunch, but very good and quite satisfying.

Today is sanma day! The komatsu sesame salad was super good. I love that sweet and sesame flavor. The sukiyaki style soup was absolute delicious. Sweet and noodly, with lots of great flavors. The sanma was also quite good today and nice and salty. The salty sanma and the sweet flavors of the salad and soup were a great match up and wonderful with rice. Super nice lunch today. Nothing but good menu items today and the sukiyaki-style soup is a great new addition to the school lunch lineup.

Kimchi Tonjiru, hijiki, and tamagoyaki. A very Japanese menu on a very rainy day. The hijiki was nice and filling with plenty of meat and tofu along with the seaweed and other beans and veggies. The tamagoyaki was sweet and I enjoyed it with rice. Lastly, the kimchi tonjiru was excellent. I love that flavor and it is warm and tasty on this cold day. Wonderful lunch.

It is a kind of rainy and gloomy Monday today, but we have lovely fried squid to boost our spirits! The dried daikon namul was pretty good and the dressing was very nice. The little slices of ham add a lot to it as well. The tanooki soup was ok. It was nice and warm and had an earthy flavor. Today’s fried squid was excellent and the sauce was delicious as well. A nice lunch that charged me back up for the afternoon. The grape gummies were also a nice treat as well. Thank you!

Today is sloppy joes, cole slaw, and soup. The cole slaw is simple and pretty delicious. I like the sweetness and the crunchy texture. The daikon potofu was interesting and having daikon radish instead of potatoes was an interesting choice, but it still worked really well. Quite nice and most of the flavor comes from the little sausage slices in it. The sloppy joes were excellent and the bread to meat ratio was nice today. It is a great little sandwich and reminds me of America. Wonderful lunch today! Looking forward to the weekend!

After another nice holiday we come back and there is another great lunch waiting! Chinese style food with spring rolls and chinjaross! The chinjaross was excellent and filled with nice ginger and savory flavors. The tofu and seaweed soup was light and nice. I liked the juicy and soft tofu. Today’s VIP by far is the spring roll, crunchy, savory, and absolutely delicious. Great lunch today! Great crunch today!

First day back after sports day and we get a yummy hayashi rice and tuna salad! The salad was nice and pretty hearty with lots of tuna and daikon radish. I like the sweetness the corn adds to the mostly tart dressing and fishy tuna flavor. The hayashi rice was nice and had a good flavor. It has a good balance of tomato and the vegetables are great too. I like how smooth it is. Last, was the La France Jelly. I think that it is pear flavored. It is delicious with a light sweet flavor. A nice change after the hayashi rice. Thank you!

Halloween is this Sunday so today is the Halloween menu. We get karaage with lemon sauce, some soup with cute pumpkin Naruto, and delicious flower vegetable salad. Lastly of course a yummy pumpkin babaloa dessert. The salad was awesome and is one of my favorites. This and the cube salad are maybe the best. I love how juicy the flower veg salad is and enjoy how much dressing the broccoli and cauliflower soak up. I like to make a chicken sandwich and use some of the remaining bread to soak up the yummy lemon sauce / dressing combo on the plate. The harsame soup was great. The little pumpkin shapes were really cute and the color of the soup in general really gave it a nice autumn vibe. The lemon chicken was quite good and I adore the sweet and slightly sour sauce that comes with it. I like it as a sandwich with school lunch, but want to try it right out of the fryer/oven some day in the future. Last, the pumpkin babaloa was a very tasty little creamy dessert with some whipped cream on top as well. Excellent lunch before sports day tomorrow!

Today is fish, salad, and soup. The momizuke was quite good and I like to mix it with the sauce from the fish when I eat it giving it a bit more flavor. The tonjiru is nice and hot with a light flavor. The meat and vegetables are nice and its very good. The iwashi was excellent and the sauce on it was fantastic. It has almost a smoky flavor which is savory and a little bit sweet. It’s quite good and great with rice of course. A nice Japanese style lunch today.

Yes, one of the holy days of school lunch has arrived! The daikon ham salad is such a great starter and delicious in all ways. Super crunchy and juicy at the same time with a nice dressing that is complimented by the natural flavors of the ham. Love this salad. The omelet was nice and had pretty good flavor. I liked to eat some of the bread along with it. Of course today’s main event is the delicious macaroni stew. I love it. It is filled with plenty of delicious vegetables and chicken and so creamy and good. Absolutely amazing. Great lunch today!

Today is mabodofu and shumai with a kind of Japanese-style namul. The vegetables have kind of a tart and tangy dressing as well as a nice sesame flavor. The mabo was nice and hot. I liked the tofu in it a lot and there was even a tiny bit of spice in there I feel which was nice. The shrimp shumai were tasty and a nice contrast to the flavors of the salad and the mabo. Nice lunch today!

Nice simple lunch today but with many ingredients. The broccoli and cucumber salad is juicy and crunchy with great sesame flavors. The tamagoyaki was sweet and fluffy. I liked it along with rice and some of the sesame sauce left in the plate. The daikon no nimono was fantastic. Nice and hot. Great with rice and filled with nice juicy flavors. The nimono and the sweet egg contrast each other really well making a nice set for the menu today. Excellent lunch! Thank you!

Curry Udon and meatball sandwiches to end the week! Nice! The jako salad is always interesting with a slight fishiness from the little jako spread in it and the nice flavors from the sesame and aburaage. Today’s cury udon is absolutely wonderful and has a great spice level. I always feel like the curry udon is always spicier than the regular curry and rice. The meatballs and bread together make an excellent sandwich which is great. Lovely lunch today!

Today is hoikoro and pominton! A yummy Chinese-style lunch which looks really good and smells great. The hoikoro is stellar and it is packed with so much meat and vegetables its great. The spices were also really good today too and the pepper was excellent and really stood out giving this dish some kick. Pominton is like the normal eggy kind of chinese soup, but filled with lots of corn which gives is a new level of flavor and depth. A seriously amazing lunch today which is rounded out by the cold and sweet aserora jelly which is refreshing. One of the best lunches all year and the first appearance of hoikoro in a long time I think.

Menchi Katsu Sandwich and sweet potato stew! Today is another one of those super-autumn school lunches. The menchi burger was super good and the crunch of the katsu along with the soft bread was a really enjoyable texture. The strong onion and meat flavors from the katsu were mellowed out by the bread and cabbage and also complimented by the sauce making the burger a super satisfying and tasty main dish. The stew was truly amazing. It was creamy and flavorful, filled with a nice variety of vegetables including sweet potato and even meat as well. I liked to go for some stew after a few bites of the sandwich to help with the bread and it was amazing. Any stew lunch is going to be delicious and today was no exception! Fantastic meal that I am quite thankful for.

Today is special local sato imo day with sanma. I don’t really like sato imo very much because of the texture, but I do love sanma very much. The komatsuna salad is quite delicious and juicy with a nice smoky flavor from the katsuoboshi. The kenchin soup was actually quite delicious and the fresh local satoimo had a much less sticky texture than normal so it was much better than I was expecting. It was actually quite creamy which was great. The sanma was excellent if a little bit salty today. I love the oily crispiness of the sanma and enjoyed it thoroughly with my rice. Wonderful Japanese style lunch today!

Sanshokudon and Miso soup. I feel like we haven’t gotten sanshokudon in a long time so I am happy to see it today. The greens are super tasty and the sesame flavor is sweet and delicious. The egg and chicken mix is great as always and has a nice light soy sauce flavor which I love. The miso soup is good as well today and I enjoyed the potatoes especially. A classic school lunch menu and very nice and filling. Thank you!

Hamburg and cheesy potatoes! What a blessing. I immediately make a sandwich using the bread saving some for the jam. I dig into the potatoes which are excellent and the cheesy goodness is great. The hakusai soup had a very light flavor, but was packed with lots of vegetables and yummy clear noodles as well. It was a good pair with the potatoes which might have been too dry without a little soup to help them along. The hamburg was pretty good and had a kind of ketchuppy sauce which was alright! I enjoyed it, but I think today’s MVP has to be the cheesy potatoes without a doubt. The tochiotome jam and bread was a delicious desert for the end and great with milk too. SO sweet and nice. A great lunch today! Thank you and have a nice weekend!

Natto and Nikujaga day! The natto was fine as usual, but I think the dashi that came with it was different. It tasted slightly more salty or flavorful than usual. The daikon and cucumber salad was ok and nice after eating the natto to clear my mouth out. The best bit of today’s lunch is the nikujaga of course. It was great and packed with delicious flavor. I didn’t taste much of the spiciness, but it was super good. The potatoes and noodles sucked up all the juicy flavors and exploded with deliciousness in my mouth. Yum!

Fish, Dosanko soup, and hijiki today! A nice Japanese menu on this rainy day. The hijiki was quite good and a nice start to the meal. I like the nice flavors and texture from the noodles and beans together with the seaweed. The dosanko soup was excellent today. The butter flavor was really delicious and there were a lot of carrots and bean sprouts. It was nice to have with my rice while eating the fish. The saba was meaty and satisfying with a nice sweetness from the miso. It went perfectly with the rice. Simple and classic school lunch today and one of the most delicious!

Today is a Chinese-style menu. The salt and sesame cabbage salad is super good. So delicious and very healthy. The flavors are so great. Speaking of great flavors, the stir fry with fried tofu was excellent as well. Super delicious and the textures of the tofu were quite enjoyable. The secret star of the day is the fried gyoza. I love them and today they were super good with nice flavor from the onions and nira. I like garlic in my gyoza and this was pretty close. Although today my gyoza wasn’t very crispy, it was still really good. But the edges of the gyoza were still crispy though. One of the best menus for strong flavor today and it didn’t disappoint at all!

Curry and Rice! Classic school lunch menu and at a great time! The seaweed salad doesn’t have my favorite texture, but I quite like it and the dressing is nice and refreshing. The curry was great as always and had a nice spice level. Super delicious and warm on this sunny windy day. Also, there were yummy sweet potatoes in it as well which was a nice surprise and I even found some chestnut chunks as well which were super nice. Fall curry! Lastly some yummy grape jelly with iron! It was delicious and sweet and refreshing. Lovely finish to the meal today.

Happy Friday and wonderful yaki soba to welcome the weekend! The tuna and veg salad was great. Nice and crunchy with a slightly sour dressing. The sweetness of the corn and umami of the tuna help to balance out the sour flavor giving it a well rounded finish. Today’s yakisoba was great as always and I was lucky and had plenty of meat in my portion today! The honey bread was delicious and good with milk and also the jelly too. Mikan and Honey bread was a nice touch at the end of the meal. Have a nice weekend!

Today is fish and shredded daikon. The shredded daikon is ok! It is pretty soggy, but the flavor is pretty good. Today’s fish is kamasu. We call kamasu barracuda in English. Barracuda! I don’t like it very much. Everyone tells me that it is sweet and I think that is one reason why it doesn’t appeal to me. My image of fish isn’t sweet and today my fish had a lot of bones in it too! Oh well! The soup was kind of tonjiru style soup, but with a different name. It was hot with a light flavor and I enjoyed it. It also had satoimo which I don’t like either. Kind of a bad luck day for me today with school lunch! Still happy to get a nice lunch even though it had a few things I don’t like. Thank you!

Popeye Sautee and Baked chicken with Cheese! What an amazing menu today! Seriously recently kyuushoku has been nothing but super star level. It is excellent. I look forward to it every day so much! The spinach sautee was great. It has a nice sweet and buttery flavor almost with nice sweetness from the corn. Baked chicken and bread day is the ideal day to make some yummy sandwiches. They were delicious and there is a lot of cheese on them and the chicken is still quite juicy too. A great combo. The soup was simple, but good. The hotdogs add a little variety to an otherwise regular veggie soup. Today’s jam, however was far from ordinary. It had a very light and nice flavor and a very velvety texture. Super delicious and a nice sweet finish to the meal.

The stamina don was excellent and the juicy flavor of the soup/sauce that it is in really tastes great. Packed full of meat and vegetables it is super hearty and satisfying. Contrasting the strong flavors of the donburi is the wonderful shrimp ball soup. The soup itself has a light flavor with yummy noodles, but the shimp balls are awesome and explode with shrimpy goodness. Great lunch today!

Today is fried fish with suitonjiru soup. The salad was delicious and juicy with some sesame flavor. The natural flavors of the vegetables and spinach are great. The grilled fish was delicious and perfectly fried. Crispy and nice with lots of meaty goodness inside. The soup in particular surprised me with the little mochi balls and that is when I realized what suiton was. I had forgotten! Very delicious and nice lunch today.

First day of October and a wonderful day for school lunch. Marshall beans and pasta! The salad was good and had a lot of dressing on it. I liked the cheese in particular for giving it a creamier texture. The ham and cheese are a great flavor combination as well. The breadroll was perfect for cleaning up the plentiful dressing left over after finishing it. Today’s pasta is an oil based spaghetti with meat and mushrooms in it. It it quite delicious

What have we done to deserve such a wonderful blessing!? I don’t know, but today’s lunch is another wonderful present. The ultra-flavorful and satisfying lemon karaage. The momizuke is quite good with a nice sesame flavor, but some of the chicken’s lemon flavor mixed with it making it super delicious. A nice preview of what’s to come later in the meal. The soup was awesome and juicy. The flavor was quite good and the nira really added a lot of depth to it. The karaage was perfect and the lemon sauce was super good adding some sweetness and sour flavors to the well fried chicken. I ate it with rice and enjoyed it thoroughly. Thank you as always!

Almost like a reward after eating my natto yesterday, today’s lunch is absolutely amazing. Steak and potatoes! Well, hamburg and cheesy potatos which is just as good. The potatos are amazing. They look like they would be very dry, but are fairly moist and the cheese adds such a nice flavor as well. It is great with the gravy sauce from the hamburg. The vegetable soup was a little plain, but it is kind of taking the place of the salad in today’s menu. Dipping the rice bread into it is quite nice. The hamburg steak itself was excellent and the demi-glace sauce was so good. Such a good menu today. I enjoyed it thoroughly!

The day has come. Natto. I ate it very quickly and proceeded to drink lots of milk and eat plenty of rice. Next up is the jakko salad. The crispy tofu is good and the dressing is nice as well. Cuts through that natto stickiness and refreshes my mouth to enjoy the rest of the meal. Usually we have nikujaga on natto day, but today they named it jagaimosoboroni. Which is basically nikujaga with a different meat in it haha. It is excellent and the saving grace for the meal. I love how hearty and juicy it is. It is thicker than a stew thanks to the potatoes having thickened up the sauce. It has some sweetness but is otherwise a delicious savory treat. I love it. Besides dealing with my enemy, natto, today was a nice meal! Thank you.

Fish, hijiki, and kimchi tonjiru day! A mixed menu, but one that always tastes great. The sweetness of the hijiki is delicious and I really like the beans and meat bits as well. The kimchi tonjiru was tasty and warmed me up. I like the flavor of the kimchi with the soup. The saba in miso sauce is the absolute best and so great. Such delicious flavor with umami and saltiness but mixed with that sweet and savory miso sauce. I love it. Great lunch today.

After the nice holiday we are back at school for one more day! And I am glad to be here because this lunch is super delicious. Menchi katsu and tomato soup! The broccoli salad was awesome and the dressing with it refreshing and creamy too. I love how crunchy and juicy the salad is. The tomato and egg soup was hot and flavorful. Today’s main dish was the menchi katsu and I made it into a sandwich using the breadroll. The katsu was great, fried well, and totally crunchy. The meat filing inside was good and it went well with the bread. Lovely lunch today.

Today is an excellent menu and how I know that autumn is coming soon! Macaroni stew! And cube salad! Crunchy cube salad is so fun to eat and delicious with the nice sour tangy dressing and yummy ham. All the crunchy cucumbers and daikon and carrots make it delicious and satisfying. The tomato and meat omlette was a tasty treat and the meat sauce was pretty good. The super star of the day of course is the macaroni stew. So hearty and with such a creamy texture and flavor it can’t be beat. It’s got meat and mushrooms adding a lot of depth. Today’s bread was honeybread and its light sweetness adds something nice when drinking milk or dipping into the stew. It was a great lunch today and I am super full! Thank you!

Japanese menu celebrating the full moon tonight! How lovely. The salad was good, and had a nice flavor. I don’t know how to describe it really, but it had hints of sesame and some flavoring similar to wakame. The soup was good, with a very light rooty flavor, but has too much satoimo for my liking. Also it had cute little Naruto fish disks that were supposed to be a yellow moon with a white rabbit on it, but I thought it was a tooth at first! Hah! Now I can’t see anything but a tooth. Sorry! I think that the best part of the meal was the sanma though by far. The tangy and sweet sauce was perfect and I could eat that forever. So delicious and juicy. Last, was a yummy jelly with a little jelly bunny. Sweet and delicious!

Meat sauce spaghetti and tuna salad. A classic kyushoku menu. The tuna salad has a nice texture with crunchiness and juiciness as well as a great flavor from the dressing and tuna. This is a great salad and I am always happy to enjoy it.

Sanshokudon! This is a great menu today. Today’s kenchin soup was good with a very light flavor but it was enjoyable. I liked the juiciness of the cabbage. The sanshokudon is great as always and the sweetness and nice sesame flavor on the spinach is excellent. The chicken and egg mixture is also super good with great flavors. There isn’t a lot to say from me about this menu other than how much I like it. Thank you!
